A bill that would give Poles special status in Ukraine was submitted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to his parliament on Monday when Poland commemorated the anniversary of the World War II-era massacre carried out by a nationalist Ukrainian formation.
A draft law “on establishing legal and social guarantees for the citizens of the Republic of Poland on the territory of Ukraine” was a gesture of gratitude to the Polish people for the support they granted to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion, the president’s office has said.
“Let this be a special sign on these issues which are very hard to discuss,” commented Polish President Andrzej Duda, as quoted by Wprost magazine.
